Celebrated annually on July 7, World Kiswahili Language Day honours the significance of Kiswahili as a widely spoken African language, with more than 200 million speakers. Recognized by UNESCO, it is the first African language to receive such international acknowledgment and is an official language of the African Union, EAC, and SADC. The day celebrates the role of language in fostering unity, multiculturalism, and sustainable development.
