On April 16, 2026, the Lok Sabha introduced the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill along with the Delimitation Bill and Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill.
The bills were passed with 251 votes in favour and 185 against; they aim to enable one-third women’s reservation in Parliament.
Post-delimitation, Lok Sabha strength will increase to 815 seats, with 272 reserved for women.
Implementation is linked to the post-2026 Census; opposition raised concerns over delay and political impact.
