Commemorates the abduction of Alec Collett (UNRWA journalist) in 1985 by armed gunmen in Lebanon. His remains were found in 2009 in Bekaa Valley.
Highlights risks to UN peacekeepers, humanitarian workers, and staff in conflict zones.

Key Developments:

The 1990s saw a sharp rise in casualties due to expanded peacekeeping in volatile areas.
1993: First UN Security Council resolution on staff security.
1994: UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel — defines crimes against them and calls for prosecution.

Remember and honour fallen/missing personnel.
Mobilise global action for their protection and safe release of detainees.
Strengthen security for UN and associated humanitarian/NGO/media workers.
