Sindhutai Sapkal, a well-known social worker and Padma Shri recipient, died of cardiac arrest in a Pune hospital.
She was 75 years old.
Sindhutai Sapkal is commonly referred to as the "Mother of Orphans."
Sindhutai is also known as Mother Teresa of Maharashtra.
Sapkal, also known as "Mai," ran an orphanage in Pune where she adopted over 1,000 orphan children. In 2021, she was awarded the Padma Shri for her contributions to society.
