World TB Day is observed on March 24 to raise awareness about tuberculosis, a deadly yet preventable disease. The 2026 theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People,” emphasizes leadership, innovation and community participation.
TB affected 10.7 million people and caused 1.23 million deaths in 2024, though 83 million lives have been saved since 2000. The day commemorates Dr. Robert Koch’s 1882 discovery of the TB bacterium. Efforts focus on early diagnosis, vaccination, and improved healthcare systems to achieve the WHO target of eliminating TB by 2030.
