The Supreme Court used its powers under Article 142 to dissolve an Irretrievable Breakdown marriage after the wife withdrew consent post-settlement.
The wife had received Rs 75 lakh, a car, and jewellery but later filed a domestic violence case.
The court rejected her claims of hidden jewellery and gold worth crores, calling them “highly egregious”.
It quashed all proceedings and directed the husband to pay the remaining Rs 70 lakh.
The verdict reinforces the binding nature of mediated settlements and warns against misuse of legal processes.
