  • Every year on January 4th, World Braille Day is observed.
  • This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, who invented the Braille script for the visually impaired.
  • The day has been marked by the United Nations since 2019.
  • Braille is a tactile script that uses six dots to denote each letter and number, as well as musical, mathematical, and scientific symbols.
  • People who are partially sighted or blind use this language to read books and magazines.
  • Prior to Braille, people with visual impairments read using the Haüy system, which involved embossing Latin letters on leather or thick paper.
