A high-level visit by India’s Secretary (Posts) to Bhutan in March 2026 resulted in a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to modernize postal services. A primary highlight is the integration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) PosTransfer system with India’s UPI, enabling affordable, real-time cross-border remittances.
The agreement focuses on technology sharing, including India’s Digital Address Code, and capacity building for Bhutanese officials at the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai National Postal Academy. This partnership aims to enhance financial inclusion and logistics efficiency, ensuring postal networks in both nations remain responsive to modern digital and cultural exchange needs.
