In a historic milestone, India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 World Indoor Athletics Championships. The event will take place at the state-of-the-art indoor facility within the Kalinga Stadium complex in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This marks the first time India will host this prestigious global track and field competition.
The decision by the World Athletics Council reflects India’s growing stature in international sports and its robust infrastructure. The championships feature 26 events, including the newly introduced 4×400m mixed relay, and are expected to significantly boost grassroots athletics participation and India’s global sporting profile.
