Renowned Tamil poet, lyricist and writer R. Vairamuthu has been selected for the 60th Jnanpith Award for 2025, India's highest literary recognition. The announcement was made by Bharatiya Jnanpith in March 2026. With over 37 books and seven National Film Awards for Best Lyrics, Vairamuthu becomes the third Tamil writer to receive this honour, following P.V. Akilan (1975) and D. Jayakanthan (2002). He has also received the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Sahitya Akademi Award.
