The United States has formally notified UNESCO of its decision to withdraw from the organization, with the exit becoming effective on December 31, 2026, as per Article II(6) of UNESCO’s Constitution. This marks the third such withdrawal, following earlier exits in 1984 and 2017, although the 2017 decision was reversed by the Biden administration in 2023.
