In a significant diplomatic development, the United Kingdom and France have reached a new agreement to jointly manage illegal migration across the English Channel. Announced during a summit in London attended by U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, the deal includes a pilot programme allowing the U.K. to return up to 50 illegal migrants to France each week, in exchange for admitting vetted migrants from France with no prior illegal entry attempts. Additionally, the two nations declared readiness to deploy a joint peacekeeping force in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. This agreement coincides with a broader renewal of Franco-British relations, further deepened by their decision to align strategies on nuclear deterrence.
