  • Alihan Smaiylov has become the new prime minister of Kazakhstan. 
  • He was nominated by President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev on 11 January 2022.
  • Earlier Smaiylov served as the country's finance minister from 2018 to 2020.
  • He worked as Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Statistics and Analysis of the Agency for Statistical Planning and Reforms, State Inspector of the Presidential Administration, Head of the KazAgro National Holding.
  • Smaiylov became the first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in 2019. He was reappointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister in 2019 and 2021.
