  • The Republic Day celebrations will now begin every year from January 23 instead of January 24 to include the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose.
  • Last year, the Narendra Modi government had decided to observe January 23 as ‘Parakram Diwas’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bose.
  • Subhas Chandra Bose, also called Netaji, was born on 23 January 1897.
  • Earlier it was announced to celebrate 14th August as 'Partition Horror Remembrance Day', 31st October as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (Sardar Patel's birth anniversary), 15th November as Tribal Gaurav Diwas (Birsa Munda's birth anniversary). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also declared 26 November as Constitution Day and 26 December as Veer Bal Diwas (homage to four sons of Guru Gobind Singh).
