The Union Cabinet has named cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Abhijat Sheth as the new Chairperson of the National Medical Commission (NMC), replacing Dr. Suresh Gangadhar who stepped down citing health issues. Dr. Sheth, also President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, aims to reform medical education, ensure transparency, and promote team-based governance. His appointment comes after a prolonged vacancy due to the absence of a suitable successor.
