Reigning world champion Shailesh Kumar opened his 2026 season with a gold medal in the men's high jump T63 category at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi, clearing 1.84 metres. Though below his personal best of 1.91 metres, the Bihar athlete was satisfied given his recovery from a knee injury post-World Championships.
Shailesh is targeting the upcoming Asian Para Games as his primary goal for 2026. He has been focusing on refining his take-off technique for better performances in coming competitions.
