National Bird Day is being celebrated on 5 January every year since 2002.
This date was chosen specifically because the annual “Christmas Bird Count” takes place on January 5 too.
According to Born Free USA, nearly 12 percent of the world’s almost 10,000 bird species are in danger of extinction.
The purpose of celebrating this is the conservation and promotion of birds.
