  • The Indian Navy has launched the second edition of the IOS SAGAR initiative from 16 March 2026 to enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region. Aligned with the SAGAR vision, the programme includes 16 countries and follows India’s chairmanship of IONS.
  • It begins with training in Kochi and includes joint naval deployments, improving interoperability. The initiative promotes collaboration to tackle challenges like piracy and disasters, strengthening India’s role as a key regional security provider.
