  • India is hosting the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage from 8–13 December 2025 at the Red Fort, New Delhi.
  • The session will assess nominations for UNESCO’s ICH Lists, review the status of already listed elements, and consider requests for international assistance.
  • India currently has 15 elements on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
    Discussions will also cover safeguarding reports, best practices, “living heritage” protection, and future planning.
  • Over 800 delegates from more than 180 countries are expected to attend, offering India major diplomatic and strategic advantages in collaboration with UNESCO.
