India is hosting the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage from 8–13 December 2025 at the Red Fort, New Delhi.
The session will assess nominations for UNESCO’s ICH Lists, review the status of already listed elements, and consider requests for international assistance.
India currently has 15 elements on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Discussions will also cover safeguarding reports, best practices, “living heritage” protection, and future planning.
Over 800 delegates from more than 180 countries are expected to attend, offering India major diplomatic and strategic advantages in collaboration with UNESCO.
