  • Botanists from Gauhati University have discovered a new plant species, "Osbeckia zubeengargiana," in the grasslands of Manas National Park, Assam, naming it after renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
  • The perennial shrub grows up to 3.5 metres tall and produces pink flowers between September and January. It belongs to the Melastomataceae family and was documented during surveys from 2021 to 2025. The findings were published in the scientific journal "Phytotaxa."
