  • Dr Udwadia is credited with introducing laparoscopic surgery to India in the early 1980s and has since played a significant role in popularizing and advancing the field in the country.
  • He has served as the president of the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India, the Association of Surgeons of India, and the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia
  • In 2002, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India, for his contributions to the field of medicine.
