The Union Cabinet approved the Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme (FY 2026-31) to add 1,500 MW of capacity. With an outlay of ₹2,584.60 crore, the scheme focuses on remote Himalayan and North Eastern regions. It offers higher financial incentives for border districts to encourage decentralized renewable energy, aiming to generate 51 lakh person-days of employment and attract private investment.
