  • India's young chess player Bharat Subramaniam has become the 73rd Chess Grandmaster of the country. 
  • He achieved the third and final Grandmaster Criterion at a tournament in Italy.
  • He is the first player from India to become the Grandmaster this year.
  • Bharat achieved his first Grandmaster norm after finishing 11th at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow in February 2020.
  • Before Bharat, Sankalp Gupta is the 71st Grandmaster and Mitrabha Guha is the 72nd Grandmaster to have won the title in November last year.
