Researchers in Assam have identified a new Garcinia tree species, dubbed Garcinia kusumae, locally known as thoikora. Named after Kusum Devi, mother of study co-author and Assam State Expert Appraisal Committee chair Jatindra Sarma, the discovery, co-authored with BARC’s Hussain A. Barbhuiya, was published in the botanical journal Feddes Repertorium.
