  • A new orchid species Crepidium asamicum was discovered by Dr. Jintu Sarma and Khyranjit Gogoi in Assam's Dibru Saikhowa National Park, adding a total of 19 species of Crepidium genus to the India.
  • India is home to about 1,265 orchid species, Assam has about 414 species, contributing significantly to the total 800 species of the Northeast India.
