A new orchid species Crepidium asamicum was discovered by Dr. Jintu Sarma and Khyranjit Gogoi in Assam's Dibru Saikhowa National Park, adding a total of 19 species of Crepidium genus to the India.
India is home to about 1,265 orchid species, Assam has about 414 species, contributing significantly to the total 800 species of the Northeast India.
