In 2024, India recorded 683 new animal species and 433 new plant taxa, with Kerala leading in faunal discoveries and Western Ghats and North-East India contributing over 35% of the total. Key new flora included 154 angiosperms and 156 fungi, while faunal hotspots such as Arunachal Pradesh and Andaman-Nicobar yielded several new species and records.
