World AIDS Day is observed globally on December 1 to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, honour those who have died from HIV-related illnesses, and support people living with the disease. First marked by WHO in 1988, this year’s theme, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” emphasises resilient, equitable, and community-led HIV services. In India, NACO under the Health Ministry leads nationwide awareness campaigns, outreach activities, and renewed commitments to strengthen prevention, treatment, and care.
