Category : National Published on: December 15 2025
Varanasi has become the first Indian city to introduce a hydrogen-powered water taxi service, inaugurated at Namo Ghat, promoting green inland transport along the Ganga. Built at Cochin Shipyard, the vessel runs on a hybrid electric–hydrogen engine with zero emissions and carries up to 50 passengers. Currently operating between Namo Ghat and Ravidas Ghat, the service offers multiple daily trips at a fare of ₹500 per person. Solar panels, bio-toilets, and CCTV ensure a sustainable and safe commuting experience, with future expansion planned to other ghats.
