The Uttarakhand government will implement a “Green Tax” from December 2025 on vehicles entering the state from outside. The move aims to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and control pollution in tourist hubs like Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Nainital. The tax will be automatically deducted via ANPR cameras at 37 entry points, with rates ranging from ₹80 to ₹700 depending on vehicle type. Electric and government vehicles are exempt. Revenue will fund clean air, green zones, and pollution control initiatives.
