The United States, under President Donald Trump, designated Saudi Arabia as a “major non-NATO ally” strengthening bilateral defense ties. The status grants Saudi Arabia easier access to U.S. weapons, permission to host American military equipment, and eligibility for Pentagon maintenance contracts. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also announced plans to boost Saudi investments in the U.S. from $600 billion to nearly $1 trillion. Though not a defense treaty, the move elevates Saudi Arabia into a group of 20 key U.S. partners, reflecting a deeper strategic alignment.
