Daily Current Affairs / Russia Becomes India’s Largest Sunflower Oil Supplier
Category : Business and economics Published on: November 04 2025
Russia has overtaken Ukraine to become India’s largest supplier of sunflower oil in 2025. Over the past four years, India’s imports of sunflower oil from Russia have surged nearly twelvefold — from 1.75 lakh tonnes in 2021 to about 20.9 lakh tonnes in 2024. Due to the war and port restrictions, Ukraine’s exports shifted mainly toward Europe, while Russia leveraged stable ports and competitive pricing to capture the Indian market. Russia’s share in India’s sunflower oil imports rose from 10% to 56%. This shift has strengthened India–Russia trade ties, though oil prices have recently increased.
