  • India conducted a key maritime security exercise under the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) at Kochi.
  • Naval representatives from 12 countries including Bangladesh, France, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka and others participated.
  • The simulated exercise focused on piracy, trafficking, disaster response and maritime domain awareness.
  • India assumed the IONS chairmanship for the 2026-2028 term after a gap of 16 years.
  • The event strengthens regional cooperation and highlights India’s growing leadership in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • Kochi, home to the Southern Naval Command, hosted the important exercise.
