Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away on 2nd October 2025 at the age of 89 in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Associated with the Kirana gharana, he was celebrated for Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, and devotional music, contributing greatly to Indian classical music nationally and internationally. His last rites were held at Varanasi’s Manikarnika Ghat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over his demise, honoring his lifelong dedication to Indian arts and culture.
