Oil India Ltd, the country's second-largest state-owned oil explorer, is constructing a plant to produce green hydrogen at its Jorhat oilfield in Assam.
The company has begun the process of establishing a 100 kW green hydrogen plant at its Pump Station-3 in Jorhat.
This is a first-of-its-kind project in the country.
Green hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. Green hydrogen production technologies based on biomass also qualify.
According to the Paris agreement (COP 21), India has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 33-35 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
