  • Oil India Ltd, the country's second-largest state-owned oil explorer, is constructing a plant to produce green hydrogen at its Jorhat oilfield in Assam.
  • The company has begun the process of establishing a 100 kW green hydrogen plant at its Pump Station-3 in Jorhat.
  • This is a first-of-its-kind project in the country.
  • Green hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. Green hydrogen production technologies based on biomass also qualify.
  • According to the Paris agreement (COP 21), India has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 33-35 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
