A NITI Aayog report (August 2024) shows India as the world leader in producing rice bran oil, castor seed, safflower, sesame and niger. The National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO) seeks to strengthen India’s oilseed ecosystem and promote self-reliance in edible oil production. The Oil Palm component, NMEO-OP, targets expanding oil palm cultivation to 6.5 lakh hectares by 2025–26 and increasing crude palm oil output to 28 lakh tonnes by 2029–30. As of November 2025, total oil palm coverage has reached 6.20 lakh hectares, with 2.50 lakh hectares added recently.
