Mexico has announced sweeping tariffs of up to 50% on over 1,400 products imported from India, China, and other Asian economies, effective from 1 January 2026. The measures cover automobiles, textiles, electronics, steel, and household goods, aiming to protect domestic industries and reduce trade imbalances. Analysts note alignment with US strategic interests under the USMCA framework. China has criticised the move, while Indian exporters face the need to adjust strategies and diversify supply chains to navigate the new trade landscape.
