Justice Joymalya Bagchi of the Calcutta High Court has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, following a recommendation made on March 6, 2025.
After the retirement of Justice K.V. Vishwanathan, Joymalya Bagchi is in line to become the Chief Justice of India (CJI) in 2031.
