Daily Current Affairs / Iran Ends Visa-Free Entry for Indian Citizens Amid Safety Concerns
Category : International Published on: November 19 2025
Iran has officially scrapped its visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens, effective November 22, 2025, requiring all Indian travellers to obtain a visa for entry or transit. The move follows multiple reports of Indians being trapped in fraudulent job schemes, leading to kidnapping and ransom incidents after arriving in Iran. In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a strict advisory urging citizens to avoid unauthorized agents and ensure proper documentation. Airlines have also been instructed to verify visas before boarding. This marks a major shift in Iran’s travel policy, previously aimed at boosting tourism and bilateral ties.
