New Delhi has been ranked the world's most polluted capital city for the fourth consecutive year followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh), N'Djamena (Chad), Dushanbe (Tajikistan) and Muscat (Oman).
India ranks five in the most (AQI) polluted nation’s rankings of the UN Environment Programme rankings.
New Delhi saw a 14.6 per cent increase in PM2.5 concentrations in 2021, 96.4 Ig/m3, up from 84 Ig/m3 in 2020. No cities in India met the WHO air quality guideline of 5 lg/m3.
Bangladesh is ranked as the most polluted country, followed by Chad, Pakistan and Tajikistan. India is the fifth most polluted country.
