  • Indian scientists have discovered an enormous ancient galaxy named Alaknanda, which resembles the Milky Way and unusually displays well-defined spiral arms despite forming when the universe was only 1.5 billion years old.
  • Professor Yogesh Wadadekar of NCRA-TIFR stated that the galaxy appears as a mature, organised system—something expected only after around three billion years of evolution.
  • The finding is noteworthy because spiral structures like those in the Milky Way typically take billions of years to develop.
