India has been unanimously re-elected to the Codex Executive Committee (CCEXEC) for the Asia region during the 48th Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48) session held in Rome. Led by FSSAI CEO Rajit Punhani, the Indian delegation highlighted the need to strengthen global food governance through updated databases on food additives, pesticide residues, veterinary drugs, and contaminants. India also supported the use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance Codex processes, including document translation. This renewed mandate, valid until CAC50 in 2027, reinforces India’s leadership in representing Asia’s technical and trade priorities in global food standards.
