The Government of India has launched a year-long celebration (2025–26) to commemorate 150 years of the National Song, Vande Mataram, composed by Bankimchandra Chatterji in 1875. First appearing in the patriotic novel Anand Math (1882), the song became a symbol of devotion to the motherland and inspired India’s freedom movement. Declared the National Song by President Rajendra Prasad in 1950, Vande Mataram continues to embody India’s unity, sacrifice, and patriotic spirit. The anniversary celebrations will include musical renditions, exhibitions, seminars, and school programs nationwide, honouring the song’s legacy and the literary contribution of Bankimchandra Chatterji.
