India launched its first Artificial Intelligence–based community screening programme for Diabetic Retinopathy, marking a significant advance in early detection of diabetic eye disease. The initiative, inaugurated in New Delhi, is a collaboration between the Armed Forces Medical Services, AIIMS (RPC) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Anchored by the MadhuNetrAI platform, it enables automated retinal screening using AI. The pilot will cover seven diverse locations, highlighting scalable AI integration in public health surveillance.
