India has been elected unopposed to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the seventh time, serving a three-year term from 2026 to 2028. The election, announced in October 2025, reflects India’s commitment to promoting human rights globally. India has been an active participant in the Council since its formation in 2006, aiming to influence international human rights policy. During its tenure, India will engage in upholding human rights standards, reviewing member countries’ situations, and contributing to discussions on key global issues. Permanent Representative P Harish expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized India’s readiness to actively contribute during its term.
