Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has become the country’s first water-positive airport among facilities handling over 40 million passengers annually. Recognised at the Water Innovation Summit 2025 under NITI Aayog–CII water neutrality framework, the airport replenishes more freshwater than it consumes. IGI deployed 625 rainwater harvesting structures, two underground reservoirs totalling 9 million litres, and a 16.6 MLD zero-liquid-discharge sewage treatment plant. Recycled water is used for HVAC, irrigation, and toilets, making IGI a benchmark in sustainable water management and climate-ready aviation infrastructure.
