  • Senior advocate and former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan passed away following a brief illness. He was 97.
  • Bhushan served as India's law minister from 1977 to 1979 in the Morarji Desai cabinet. He was best known for successfully arguing for setting aside the election of Indira Gandhi in 1975.
  • Bhushan represented politician Raj Narain in the historic case against Indira Gandhi.
  • In his political career, he was a member of the Congress (O) and later of the Janata Party. 
  • He served as a Rajya Sabha member too. The lawyer-turned-politician was also a founding member of the BJP in 1980 and remained associated with the party for six years.
  • The eminent jurist was also a founding members of the Aam Aadmi Party which he later quit.
