Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death in absentia by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity linked to her government’s 2024 crackdown on student-led protests. The tribunal found she authorized lethal force including drones, helicopters and live ammunition which resulted in nearly 1,400 deaths. Currently in exile in India, Hasina called the trial biased and politically motivated. The verdict has heightened diplomatic tensions as Bangladesh seeks her extradition, while India remains non-committal.
