Archaeological excavations at Keezhadi along Tamil Nadu’s Vaigai river have uncovered brick structures, canals, floors and pottery reflecting urban life described in Sangam literature. A recent study using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating indicates that major floods buried parts of the settlement roughly 1,155 years ago. Analysis of sediment layers shows high-energy flooding followed by calmer deposition, providing crucial insights into ancient urban habitation, climate variability, and river dynamics, helping archaeologists better understand Keezhadi’s history and plan future excavations.
